I used no nails but because the stones were bumpy they didnt touch each other much so it failed miserably :P

I use slate too. they warm up nicely being over the heatmat and provide a lovely warm hidey hole in the warm end as well as being cool in the cool end of the viv.

I think that's actually a good idea, or something similar, even when you've put it together and think it looks bad, sprinkle sand over the top and that'll stick to any visible bits of glue/no nails and then when it's dry cook it to kill any 'beasties'.

It sounds good in my head anyway, but then again, so did the tracy island from blue peter.....

I think the glue would crumble in te oven? It didnt go so well anyway. I found some tiles in the garage so one of them leaning on something else will do as a hide.

I have slapped on a few coats of varnish today. Very tedious but hopefully worth the effort

i have put another coat of varnish on the inside of the viv. 3 coats in total. Its looking pretty good. i will fit the runners today and maybe cut the doors if i have time.
