I jsut got some quarried slate from my mam and dad who went to wales, stuck it together with no nails to make sure it won't topple over.

I use slate too. they warm up nicely being over the heatmat and provide a lovely warm hidey hole in the warm end as well as being cool in the cool end of the viv.
I prop the slates on pretty rocks or wedge them against the heavy water bowl or the one I have with a corner missing I use as a lid on a seedling tray to provide a damp hide.

I think that's actually a good idea, or something similar, even when you've put it together and think it looks bad, sprinkle sand over the top and that'll stick to any visible bits of glue/no nails and then when it's dry cook it to kill any 'beasties'.

It sounds good in my head anyway, but then again, so did the tracy island from blue peter.....

                      | I think the glue would crumble in te oven? It didnt go so well anyway. I found some tiles in the garage so one of them leaning on something else will do as a hide. |

                      | I have slapped on a few coats of varnish today. Very tedious but hopefully worth the effort |
