It can be a little abrasive on reps, especially belly crawlers.
Also non absorbent.

Try repti-carpet.

You can get quite good quality nowadays if you're willing to pay a bit more.

matty18714; impaction problems like sand although in a slightly different way.

repticarpet, lino or slate tiles are best.

was thinking of lino or slate but it isnt absorbant. plus the slate would be a nightmare to get up to temp wen its cooled (i think)
gonna have a look at repti carpet i think.

unless there is any thing else i think of

I've always wondered about Lino, is it ok for under-floor heating, is it not an insulator?

I know the lino is not absorbent but its easier to wipe clean then 100's of thin pieces of fake grass blades plus it's smooth so doesn't 'rub' on the reptiles bellies.

I have lino in my tanks & have no probs heating with mats.

I dont so I can take it out to clean if I need to, otherwise just wipe it clean while it's still in the viv.

it does sound a good idea. thinking of the slate aswell. heard that it helps to keep there nails down also. will prob put some news paper underneath to soak up any mess. trying to go for as natural habitat as i can. already used rocks to make a cool hide.

wrt gluing the lino down I was refering to snakes burrowing and coming into direct contact with the heat mat, wondered if it should be stuck down.

if you cut it to size and lay flat on top they wont get under.
plus leaves a little gap for air circulation.
