Hi peeps, I need some advice. I bought a baby corn nearly 2 months old for my daughter as a Bday prezzy, and she loves him/her. I just need to know a few things as to keeping her. At the moment she is living in a 8"x5"x6" plastic tank, which i was told would be suitable for a few months, but then she would need a bigger one. So I went to one of my local petshops and found an exdisplay viv, wooden with sliding doors, 2x vents, 1x florescent light going corner to corner, and 1x 10 watt spotlight,I tried just the spot light on for half an hour and the temp in the one corner is approx 80-82, and in the other its approx 74-75, would this set up be ok, or will i need a mat instead of the spot?
The viv cost me wait for it.... £5!
P.S I've made a mesh cage for the spot, to stop her burning her self.
Plz shower me with advice, and thnx in advance.
Jay. |

The exdisplay viv.
When she rises later I'll get some pics of her/him. |

£5!!!! Thats mint. Most people use matts but i guess as long as he/she cant get burnt and it makes the temp up it will be fine. Can you tell me the size of the snake and the dimentions of the viv? I'm thinking that the viv is possibly too big for the snake at the moment which could stress it out. |

The temp needs to be measured where the hides are as this is where the snake will be. Aslong as the temp in the hot hide reads 30*C & the cooler hide should read around 25*C roughly.
The dial thermometer is no good on the back wall.
Looks like a cosy set up though. |

Hi, Thanks for replys, i thought the thermometer on the back right would be ok cause when she can go in the bigger one, we were going to put her coconut hide there, and leave the new hide at the front left where i put another strip thermometer.
As for the sizes, the viv is 24" long by 24" wide by 16" tall, if you know of a good way to measure her (maybel)let me know, but the second shed is 15" long and its 99% complete, which she shed on the 11th of july.
uploading some pics, n will post them as soon as they are done maybe give you a better idea of size.
Thanks guys.

Put the snake in the smaller tank and then put the tank into the viv with the lid open. That way the snake can explore the new viv but still feel secure in its old tank. After a while you can remove the tank. |

Basically the length + depth of the viv should equal the length of the snake. so a 24" x 16" floor dimension is suitable for a snake 40" (3.5feet) long. the problem you may have putting a young snake in a viv that size is that it feels too big for him/her. |

As Alison says, remember that in the wild the snake would find a nice small crevice and can naturally be agoraphobic. |

just provide plenty of hiding places and not to vast an area of open ground and it will be fine, this breed does live in the wild |
