If I breed Wiggle (Amel) with and Anery what can I expect, just ghosts or others too?

Sorry, not too hot on the genetic bits and pieces,

cheers

this is confusing! I have a male Amel and a female Anery so was wondering the same thing,on this site http://www.kornnatterlexikon.de/index.php?action=6 it says you'd get normals and on Mick's cornsnake progeny predictor it says you'd get snows!?! Anybody shed some light on this

amel x anery = normals 100%

to produce a double recessive morph the genes need to pair up or that gene will not show so would be in het or heterozygous form. a normal het amel has a normal phenotype with an amel genotype.

amel het anery x anery het amel = 1/4 snow.

snow x snow = 100% snow

normal het snow x snow = 1/4 snow

normal het snow x amel het anery = 1/8 snow

normal het snow x anery het amel = 1/8 snow

snow x amel het anery = 1/2 snow

snow x anery het amel = 1/2 snow

the chances of producing a snow from the above pairings depend on the chances of amel + anery being able to pair up so there is a copy of amel + anery from one parent & a copy of amel + anery from the other. so four copies 2 amel + 2 anery. which is a double recessive colour morph, in this case snow.

phenotype = visual trait

genotype = hidden trait (het)

% of outcomes are per 'egg' NOT per 'clutch' so 50% chance of snow means 50% chance each egg from the entire clutch will be snow not half the entire clutch will be snow. so you could get ALL snows if you're lucky or you could get none - that would be very unlucky, but possible.

Cheers MM, so if I was after something other than 'normals' (don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with any Corn) what would be the best partner for Wiggle in your opinion?

Well assuming Wiggle isn't het for anything;

Amel x Amel = 100% Amel

Amel x Snow = 100% Amel het Anery

Amel x Blizzard = 100% Amel het Charcoal

Amel x Coral Snow = 100% Amel het ghost

Amel x Champagne Snow/Snopal = 100% Amel het Anery + Lavender

Amel x Ultramel = 50% Ultramel + 50% Amel

Amel x Ultra = 100% Utramel

Amel x Butter = 100% Amel het Caramel

There's a few, basically anything containing Amel except for Utra/Ultramel - that'll confuse you lol.

anery het snow means anery het amel. It's just if the anery het 'snow' is crossed to something with amel & anery in it's phenotype, genotype or mix of both, then it will produce snow

Anery cannot be 'het snow' really as snow IS anery (+ amel)

the answer to your Q. is 100% amel het aney.
