I just purchased a fairly large tank for my 3ft corn. Any ideas on making it fun for Kain and fun for me to look at would be appreciated. There are also no places around my house to buy interesting branches and such. Does anyone know of any online sites to purchase things.
quick note....at the last checkup the vet told me i should only use newspaper. Whats your opinion on this?
My vet told me to use newspaper for my king snake, but using that can cause problems because of the chemicals in the newsprint. If you want to use a paper based substrate, I would recommend just plain white kitchen roll.
I use Aspen for all my corns though. They love it!
As for exciting things for vivs- they love anything they can hide in. Flower pots, upside down plastic bowls with a hole in, toilet roll tubes. Anything really. You don't have to spend much money to make it interesting for them.
If you find some interesting rocks in your garden you could always soak them in disinfectant solution overnight and use those too.
I have heard of people getting logs from the garden and baking them in the oven for a few hours to kill any nasties in them, but I've never done that, so can't vouch for it
thank you for your reply! I read about the ink in newspaper causing problems so im going to pick up some paper towels. I used to use aspen and he loved it but the vet told me newspaper was the best way to go. I never though of logs and rocks from right outside. I will try it. Im sure any new addition he will love.
thanks for the reply. I always thought that aspen was a good choice too. With the cage size i have aspen would be hard to clean up so i think i will use paper towels unless anyone has a quicker way of cleaning out aspen then dumping out the tank!!
It does take a while when you do a big clean, but aspen is brilliant for spot cleaning too. The aspen lasts ages as long as you make sure you get all the pooey stuff up when your snakey leaves you a little present
yea thats true...im thinking im going to go back to aspen Kain loves it and its definately much easier on the eyes...In the past I have used a shop vac to suck out the bedding for anyone wanting an idea on easier cleaning.
