Firstly Hello, Iv just bought my first snake and Im very happy just got a few questions though.
Firstly- I handled him earlier in the day and he was fine, he's slept/hidden in his hide most of the day but when i went to pick him out earlier he was darting around and really didn't want to be handled so i left him to it as to not destress him further.
Secondly- Since turning off my room light he has now become very active roaming around and sniffing about but again if i go to pick him out he darts around and really doesn't want to be handled.
Im hoping he just needs to get used to me and his surroundings but at the moment it's worrying me slightly as it seems since i picked him out earlier and woke him he is nt wanting to be picked up again, is he just settling in or have I annoyed him.
Sorry for the big post just a little concerned Iv noe got this snake and i won't be able to handle him
thanks nick |

Welcome to the Forum! Congrats on the new Corn.
As you have just got him, id give him a few days to settle in (a week if you can wait that long) don't handle him, just change his water. Corn Snakes are Nocturnal, meaning they're active during the night and sleep during the day, thats the reason your noticing he's becoming active when lights go off. Hope I've helped! Dan |

hi, and welcome! id say leave him for a week or so too if you can, corns dont like to be handled constantly and once a week would be sufficient to have a happy tame snake, although bites from nervous corns are very rare so i wouldnt worry bout handling.. |

Ha ha, I know how you feel with wedging bits of paper. I've had to block the gaps at the bottom of the background in my viv. Lost count of the amount of times I thought he'd escaped and then found him hiding behind the background! My corn was nervous at first too but I just lay my hand flat in the viv and he soon got used to me and slithered on to my hand and has been more than happy to be handled ever since. On a slightly different subject, he had his first fuzzie today! I was nervous in case it was too big...he took a bit longer to get it down his neck but managed it eventually, then had a quick drink and burrowed away to hide while he digests. Bless him. |
