My other new arrival on Sunday is my 1.0 CB06 Japanese Ratsnake. Hmmmmm, feisty little b@gger! So I've called him Satan, lol.
Does anyone here have experience of handling more difficult snakes as I'd be very greatful for any help or advice. Just having eye contact starts his tail rattling, so I decided to hook him out of the bag into the viv (though God knows how they got him in the bag in the first place ) and he still tried to nip me.
His name didn't take too long to be decided I'll take some pics if/when I can handle him and keep him still enough for the camera! |

Maurice was like that when i first got him. If you put your hand into the opposite side of the viv and then take it out after a few mins, then do it again several times a day then after a week or so he SHOULD have got used to your hand. Its all about letting him make the link that you wont harm him.
Hope that works |

Not all snakes take to handling so it could remain like this through adulthood. |

Try looking on another forum that deals with the species you have, it could be the only way to get the correct info you need & you could search the net for additional info. |

Signed up on the Ratsnake Foundation website but their community seems very quiet, there might be 3-6 new posts per day and that's it. There seems to be very little info of any use on t'internet that's specific to Japs so I'm looking for general Rat snake stuff. I'm leaving him to settle in for a week then I'll start trying to handle him and will let you all know how it goes (if I still have 10 fingers left to type with!!) |

hi lindsei and thanks I hadn't found either of those, I get bored of wading through the c'@p that Google throws up in a search!! I've had a read of both sites, pretty much everywhere has the same basic information but nothing more detailed, so I guess in any other respects they're as per your average Rat. |
