Hi guys again,
Just a quick, probably equally dippy question, but you know how you all go on about baking stuff before you put it in with snakey, well do you even mean if you buy branches and stuff from a reptile shop? Or just stuff you make yourself like toilet rolls, cardboard boxes etc? Just want to make sure I get it all right ready for when I get my new arrival -so excited I am driving my partner up the wall, think he just wants it to hurry up and be ready to collect now!!!

Hi Mick,
How do you sterilise them? Could you use the tablets you use to sterilise babies bottles with (I could nick some from my nephew) or is that too strong?

Hi Nikki, You bake branches and stuff you get from outside that could have termites etc in to kill them off.You dont need to bake branches you get from a reptile shop as they should already be treated, but it is still an idea to sterilise them. You sterilise things with 1 part bleach to ten parts water. Leave to soak in normal water after then give it a good rinse. btw you dont need to bake toilet rolls or cardboard boxes. Hope this helps. |

I use Milton which is what you use for babies etc... I cant see why tablets would be any different, but dont wanna say yes for definate, so thats up to you lol. the way I looked at it was, if its safe enough for my kids, should be ok for snakey poo.
I used bleach on my branches I found as mine were tooo large for the oven, just soaked em in the bath for a few hours ;)
hope that helps
oh you can also use boiling hot water too, heard somebody saying the did that. ;) |

Nooooooooo! even stuff you get from shops might have been in storage for a while and picked up nasties!!!
or for bigger items soak in a 10% bleach solution overnight then allow to dry thoroughly |

If you bake silk plants.. wont they burn?
You can bleach them alternatively. |
