Hi

I have been reading posts all day and have to say I am very impressed with what I have seen, so am pretty confident this is a good place for help and advice!!
I have just picked out my new Amel hatchling and I am now in the process of getting everything ready for when I get it home in a few weeks (will know if we are having a boy or girl at weekend as the breeder is poppin them) I am SO excited as have wanted one since I was little so at 31 I think I have waited long enough!!
Anyway I just needed a bit of guidance I have seen this starter kit on 888 reptiles
http://www.888reptiles.co.uk/productdetails.php?ProductID=2623&ProductGroupID=1287
My question is are the 2 strip thermometers adequate as I have seen people talking about digital thermometers etc? Also are all the other things in the kit suitable or am I better off getting it all seperate?
Looking forward to hearing your views.

Thanks

Welcome
I have been looking at this starter kit and it is ok but i would advice digital thermometers as i bought this kit, dad changed his mind so added sand and used it for my geckos. This strip thermometors aren't the best.
Anyway congrats on your purchase and welcome to this very friendly site

hi and welcome
i was gonna get that kit, but got my setup with my snake so didn't need it.
you defo need a digi thermometer imo as they are far more accurate than the stat, and they have a probe that you can pop in the warm hide so you know exactlt the temp he/sge is sleepin in.
I set my temps from the digi thermometer not the stat
hope that helps ;)

i use strips in the cool end of some of my vivs but they're not particulary accurate, best off going for a digi for the warm end. not looked at the kit but does it include a thermostat?

Hi guys,

Thanks for your replies

The kit includes a komodo thermostat and a 7 watt heat matt. Also any good places to get the digi thermometers as I cant seem to find any on the 888 site - unless I'm being dippy!!

So excited about my new arrival, I'll be sure to post piccys when I get some! Might be a few weeks before I get my new baby though! Pleased I have found this site!

Thanks again

Heya Nikki77!

Well done on your purchase!! Having just picked up my new amel female yesterday I know how exciting it is! I couldn't sleep at all! I'm also really new to this forum but it is seriously friendly and very helpful too.

I use the digital thermometers for both my setups- they are far more accurate and provide much more peace of mind for you when looking after your new snakey!!

Lookin forward to seeing some piccies of the little slithery one!!!

Cheers from Rachael xx

Ola and welcome to the addiction. I guess one thing thats important to remember when buying equipment is that if you get good quality it will last you a long long time and won't let you down. But its also worth shopping around (if you have time) as you can save a bundle on branded items!
Defo worth getting a digi thermometer (i got mine from maplin online in their sale and have had it for over 15 years!). Its a portable one to make random checks and set stats accordingly I also use it for my fish as it has a waterproof probe..
