Hello to everyone. My name is James and I'm from Glasgow.
I currently have a 1.5 - 2 year old Corn Snake and will be needing lots of advice on it.
My girlfriend wanted the snake, but has now become scared of it, because he has bitten her a few times.
So it's now up to me to look after it, which I know nothing about. |

Hi and welcome ditto what mick said. I'm new here to, brilliant site. Sounds like he/she (snake) needs to get used to being handled. Maybe a setteling in period? I'm sure you will get plenty of good advice. One tip is to make sure you wash your hands before handling to get rid of any smells (food especially) that might be on you hands and try using a soft glove until he gets used to you. I had a yellow rat snake that used to bite around feeding time and I used a glove to handle him at these times. Eventualy he got used to being handled and stopped biting completely.... |

heya and welcome
it's pretty unusual for corns to actually bite, they tend to headbutt with a closed mouth............. can she think of any reason she got bitten? |

Cheers for the advice. Maybe try handling the snake with a glove for a while. GF used to handle him a lot, until our baby was born. The last 7 months nobody has really been near him. |

This time, no. The snake was very calm. Was moving around my hands and between my fingers not bothered. When I passed the snake to my GF, it was fine for a while, then just struck her. Snake continued to slide about her hands though - maybe thought her fingers was the rat pup?
We have a 7 month old baby. Since she's been born, the snake hasn't been handled - exept when cleaning it's Viv and feeding. Maybe this has something to do with it? |

if it's not been handled for a while it will take a while to get him back into the swing of things again, my snakes were the reason i was allowed to go home from hospital after having my little girl, lol, i was in a week, they wanted to keep me longer but i said there were 'animal welfare issues' if i couldn't get home to feed them if your OH is doing 'baby stuff' she'll also smell very differently - baby bath stuff, nappy cream, talc etc so clean hands are essential........ and perseverance my little girl is 2 now and loves holding nearly all my snakes (under supervision of course) |
