Beech viv, or any other wood type viv, put the heat mat inside, with the probe on top of the heatmat. You can put a bit of lino or something similar over the heatmat as well if you want, but providing that the stat probe is situated properly, then there should be no risk of getting burnt. |

Stat probe directly on the mat, temp probe ontop of the substrate above the mat or in the hide. |

i have my heat mat under the viv, but the temperature inside is still ok, as i have the probe inside the viv, and i think it is ok. Does it make a huge difference, and should i move it inside the viv? |

That depends, air flow to the mat will be better in the viv if you have the mat between a viv and table now, but your snake will be in contact with it.
I personaly prefer to have the probe taped directly to the mat whenever I can (not an option with a mat inside the viv). |

The snake could get caught in the tape. |

well ive put mine in the viv and the stat hardly ever seems to come on but the thermometer reads 80.4 so im assuming that its all ok. the snake seems to love its new home and within minutes of being in there climbed up the jungle vine looking for a way out, actually tried to squeeze through the vent, which was abit of a worry.
i will have to keep an eye on it until itgrows abit
cheers guys
