I have a big box of peat the had toms in last year if i freeze this would it be ok to use in the box or is it best to buy new?

I wouldn't advise using peat, period! I would assume it would contain lots of bacteria, especially if used to grow toms!

Vermiculite and sphagnum moss are the most often used mediums, readily available and relatively cheap.

Got some today plus all the bits to make a poly box incubator. She shed this morning so will see if she will take a small mouse tonight.
