hiya all,
a few weeks ago "sidney's" uv light went and as we just didnt have the spare money to replace it, it stayed like it for a week. he had constant heat, was still fed and he still had plenty of daylight. since we replaced it he's not been very active but i wasnt worried as agin, he was still eating. for the last 2 days he's not moved at all. i know its silly but im scared to look !! am wondering if there's any chance he's hibernating, or traumatised about the change....or anything. he's a 3 year old corn and (if it helps) his tank is 4footx18inx18in. he has plenty of things to crawl on and places to hide.....basicly has always been happy and healthy. your opinion would be appriciated. thank you xxxxx
ps. was sorry to read about ramesses. xxxxx

Try picking him up and see if he is ok. Very unlikely he is hibernating if he has a constant heat source. Also corns dont need uv light so save your money, in fact they dont need any artificial light unless you live in a cave that is,and is not getting any natural daylight. What heating has he got? |

he's got one of those heat bulbs. we do have mats, but have never used them as the bulb keeps it warm enough. i'll remember that about the light for next time. we got one of those repti glo ones for him. it needed to be 36in so therefore cost us nearly 30 quid ! we had a look a heat bulbs whilst we were there incase that went too, and they were up to £70. shocking. i think now ive come to terms with the fact that he's gone. im very sad. out of interest...would his tank be too big for a baby corn ? if thats possible?
thank you for the reply...... xxxx"a very sad" hannah xxxxx |

Have you actually tried to touch him or even look at him? He may well be in shed, and not moving.. Usually, if I lift up the hide, he'll quickly lift his head up to see who it is.. And if he's in shed, he won't move a muscle; he'll just stay still.
Don't prepare for the worst if you haven't even tried to pick him up :) |

You should lift up the hide and pick her up. My Tynan is often completely still in the cold hide even if i lift the hide he doesn`t move. Also heat mats are better for corns than lamps. |

thanks again everyone for your replys..
he's definatly gone. i was always looking at him and touching him when he was in shed before. he was lying in the corner, near his lamp, not hiding at all. thats why i knew he hadn't moved for 3 days, and knew the worst had happened. i didnt pick him up as im not good with that sort of thing...thats what men are for lol. he was the first one i'd had and believe it or not, even touched !!!....now im addicted to them and want more lol. i dont want to get rid of his tank as i know i'll use it some day, but again, can a tank ever be too big for any type of snake ?

very sad to hear that, tanks can freak snakes out if they are too large/open but i dont think yours was a problem as your corn would of probably been around the 4' mark.If your going to kee the viv make sure you give the viv a good disinfecting just in case your corn had something infectous |

Well if they die, they flip over and their mouth is slightly open! Don't give up yet, just gently place your hand nearest you can to him. |

i'd be shocked too! E-T ceramic bulbs are around £15-20 usually and that's shop prices! |
