Just started my 3 viv stack yesterday, its one larger vivarium on the bottom and 2 smaller vivariums above which are the same size as each other. Its going to be used to house a Bearded Dragon on the bottom & 2 Mexican Black King Snakes above.
This is the old wardrobe i decided to convert.
Its 42 inches wide, 55 inchs high & 22inchs deep.
Inside view of the wardrobe.
Okay to start i cut 4 pieces of wood the depth of the wardrobe.
These are used to hold the shelves that will be the floors of the vivariums.
Second i sanded down the pieces to get rid of the rough edges.
Then i screwed them into place after measuring enough room for each vivarium.
The 4th step was to cut the shelves to fit ontop of the 4 pieces i cut earlier. Gave them a quick disinfecting & rubbed off all the dust.
5th was fitting the shelves into the wardrobe.
6th step was sealing all the egdes. Using decoraters cork(stuff the goes around the bathtub.)
And this was all i got done in one night.
Just waiting for the Double glass sliding tracks, Vents & Finger grips to be delivered in a few days & then i need to get my father to get me a few sizes of clear perspect from work & then i can get back to work on it.
The top vivarium looks tiny but it's the same size as the middle one.
As you can see in this picture :)
Total Cost to build this far, £0.
Thanks for showing an intrest! |

a bearded dragon up to around 1 years is okay in a 3foot by 1foot by 1.5foot vivarium, but after a year they should be in anything bigger than a 4x2x2, this is a little taller than 2 foot and almost 4 foot long n 2 foot deep, so it will be good for him for the rest of his days if i build an extra level into it, might even be good for another beardie too :)
I'll definatly keep you guys updated, won't be much else going on now untill the weekend tho :) |

I already have 2 mexican blacks going into the top 2 vivs and the bottom is reserved for my beardie & i might be getting another beardie to go into the same viv at the bottom, my corn snake how ever has to cope with a small RUB for now till shes bigger then he will move up into one of the larger ones that the mexi's are in now and then when shes bigger still into the 3foot viv that the beardie is in now, then i'll have to see about making a new stack with extra compartments for newer animals :) but that wont be for a long time, i have enough to keep me satisfied for now hehe. |

beardies should do absolutly fine for thier whole life in a viv 4 x 2 x 2. my big one is in a viv... *runs off the measure*... 47 x 24 x 17 inch, so thatts... 4 x 2 x 1.5 and he's perfectly happy :) my little on is in a 3 x 2 x 1.5 i think roughly the viv should be at least 2.5 times bigger than the length of the beardie. my big on is 18 inches and the viv is 47 so that works out well :) my little on is about 8 inches so that works well too only a giant morph beardie will need anything bigger than 4 ft really ^_^
hope this helps (Y) |

Quick update on the stack.
The runners, vents & grips arrived today which was an unexpected surprise, didn't think they would be here till friday at least.
Used a hot glue gun to stick the Runners down
Took around 1 glue stick per runner, so had to use a big bag of them lol.
Here they are all stuck down waiting for some clear perspects.
And heres the vents and grips.
Also bought some rough tills today for the flooring of the beardies viv.
Need to try borrow a tile cutter from my neigbour in the morning to get these fitting right. Also need to see if she has a drill bit the same width of the vents before i can fit them & the grips won't be fitted till i get some perspects from father at the weekend, so once again everything grinds to a halt.
Also as a finishing touch i need to get some edging tape to get rid of the rough looking edges of each seperating floor.
Total costs so far. Runners, Vents & Grips + postage & packaging = £40.04 Hot glue gun & packet of 100 glue sticks = £8 8 Rough 30x30cm tiles = £4.40 (didn't need 8 but got them so if any ever break i have a few spare.)
Thanks for all the comments, keep 'em coming :) |

Btw Markus.. Vinyl tiles might be easier then standard heavy ceramic ones. They're sticky on the underside, so you just stick two of them back to back. They're a lot easier to remove when you need to clean etc (And if you need to cut a bit, then just get some decent scissors)
There's a lot of them in B&Q, plenty of colours :) |

I pick up my vinyl tiles from poundland. You get a small pack of 5 for a quid. (odd that, being it's poundland. ) |

Nearest B&Q is quite far away & was with the mother & she was stressing that we had already been shopping all day so just had to get these from TopsTiles, they were only somthing like 51pence per tile & their not that heavy, if they all end up breaking ill try get some vinyl ones like you've mentioned. |

I could cut into the top panel but it would look alot more sloppy & 'home made'. I dosn't really matter tho cause the top viv is pretty high up, the floor of the top viv is just below my eye level, and im over 6feet so dosn't really matter about it having more glass area. |

Got the large drill bit from my neigbour so another quick update here.
Cut the holes for the vents. 2 for each snake, 4 for the beardie.
Glued in the vents with a load more hot glue(also burnt my fingers with it >.<)
Cut, sanded & fitted some wood for shelves in the beardies viv.
My neigbour does have a tile cutter around some where so shes going to have a look for it for me in the morning. Then all thats left to do is drill the holes for wiring up the UV bulb & Heat bulb for the beardie. LED lighting, heat mats & thermostats for the snakes, Which all been well i should get done tomorrow. Then its just waiting till Sunday for the clear perspects.
I'm happy with how this so far & i think its coming along nicly. Can't beilive how much it hasn't cost me to make, hehe. :) |

It is a good space saver but it weighs a lot, so when it comes to moving it to a new house its going to be a struggle to move it. The top & the draws at the bottom come off so i guess it wont be impossible to move.
Thanks for showing an intrest :) |

This will get stickied, in it's own thread. When it's complete, Markus is gonna make another and it's gonna get stickied and locked in the DIY section. It'll help to keep everything together and clean then.
