We picked up a little 2 1/2 week old hatchling yesterday. She had just shed and wouldn't take her pinky. I know they go off their food when shedding so should we try her again today or leave her for a day or two more to settle in before trying again? Her last pinky was on the 6th May.
Well I tried again in the early hours of the morning and Pecan wasn't interested at all even after I brained the pinky and warmed it up a little. She just wanted to get away from it. So we left it in her tub for the rest of the night and it's was still there this morning. Anyone got any other tips to encourage her to eat????
do pinkies have developed bones? (i have never had to feed them). i would say no if they have beacause if they were exposed they could hurt the snake internally.
not sure about the developed bones thing. but ive real small hatchling pinky back legs to get them started with out any probs
just read your top post again is it the snake that is only 2 and a half weeks old if so it shouldnt of been sold to you, that shed would have been its first since it hatched so it has more than likly never fed (did you get it from a shop) its usally between one and two months old that mine are ready to go at.
this has really got under my skin, i read your other post to think that there are breeders selling hatchlings at this age for pets. breeding is a big responsibility not only for the care of the snake but also purchaser i keep records on how the hatchling behave and fed with me and also a record of who bought them incase of any problems and im always there for surport if needed.
if the person who bred them where not willing to sit on them they should sell them as non feeders to a shop. they should of never put the responsibility on to you especially with out giveing you all the facts. if its has fed already then it probs didnt absorb its yoke sac.
my best advice to you is to leave it alone apart from atempting to fed, dont try to ofen as you may train it to be scared of its pray. just drop the pray near its hide and leave it. do some reserach on breeding and treat it as if you produced it your self. in you favor its a corn and for the most part they are pretty easy it probs is just not to hungry yet. some of mine can take up to a few weeks after there 1st shed to want to eat or be brave enough too.
Well it's good news finally......we tried her again last night but this time instead of taking her out to feed we just put it in with her and left her quiet with it. Checked this morning and it was gone......such a relief
We got her from a local breeder....they did have all the info written on the box she came in and said to get back in touch if we had any problems but unfortunatley they went on holiday the day after we got her. Our other Corn Peanut was shop bought and was already 5/6 months old and loves his food.
Thanks for your advice Roselyn.....we'll keep a very close eye on her and any problems, we'll be straight on here for help. We will certainly take care of her 100% and do our utmost to make sure she is healthy and happy and we definately will not get another that is still so young
congrats im really glad she has fed for you it should be pretty much plain sailing from here use the same method to feed her again for the next few feds and all should be well.
i hope the rest the breeder has turn out to be as fortunate and get good homes.
