Hi all, hope your all well.

I've just got a quick question regarding Saber's strange behavior, We've had her now for around the 3 week mark but she's acting differently.

After her first week of settling in she became rather inquisitive of her Viv and did a lot of exploring or she'd happily sit with her head poking from her hide. Feeding has not been a problem and handling has been easy. Both my partner and I hold her while she slides up and down our arms or coils round our hands.

But of late she's been acting jumpy and skittish, when we go to change her water she'll dive under the substrate and tunnel to a hide or coil so that her head is covered (constantly moving like she's trying to coil herself even tighter).

I've noticed her lower half has been getting darker, first it was patches where it looked like it was food in her stomach but it seemed to have spread. I've heard this could be a sign of shedding (we wasn't told of her last shed) but as she has Red/Pinkish eyes I can't see any Blue/Mist.

Typical shed behavior perhaps?

Sometimes their eyes are only cloudy for a day or so, and it's harder to see on an amel (well i think so anyway) then they clear again and it can be anything for 2 - 10 days before they shed so you could well have missed it. It would explain the out of the ordinary tetchyness too.

Thanks Tizzy, we'll keep and eye out for a shed. Should we refrain from handling?

It's a good idea as if he is shedding then he's almost blind and gonna be feeling really stressed, keep a close eye on him too just in case.
