just had the biggest scare of my very short corn owning life. got chester a loverly new viv kitted out with lots of loverly hides earh positioned so i could see into each so i could keep a eye on the little lad. took him out to feed him this morning fed him then put him back in so he could sleep it off. 3 hrs later GONE!!! couldnt belive it. got a little torch out to check the fake plant and in his hides cos didnt wanna go rushing in there. nothing!! started emptying everything out. still nothing. thought he had teleported thru glass feulled by a recent fluzzy. then i remembered reading that they like to dig! on running my fingers thru his substrate above heat mat there was nothing. checked the cold end and low and behold them the little mite was. all curled up underground sleeping. Aaaaargh!!!!!!!!!!!! why cant there just appreciate all the loverly new hides he has and curl up in one of them.????
anyway....got about a inch an half of substrate(aspen i think) on viv floor is this too much? is there anyway of preventing this as i dont wanna keep distubing him, and scaring myself half to death..
I didn't notice the spelling I'm no good either good that you spotted him/her (sorry can't remember name ) hope it won't happen again and like the sound of the new viv
Well as long as you know that he cant possibly get out, you can leave him to it. you could lower the depth of the substrate to the thickness of the snake so he will always be slightly visible
They like to dig, so it would be cruel not to let them
Jally does that to us all the time. She gives us proper heart attacks too, especially after we now know she likes to go on adventures about the house.
It'll not be long though before they are too big to hide as easy. Casper still thinks he's little and burrows, but there's always one bit showing. Bless him!
hi, i too was going mad tryin to find my boys after a recent escape so have changed from substrate to wood chip as they dont like to burrow in that lol
