Hi,

I'm thinking of a few changes to the vivarium, one of which would be to replace the spotlight that I use for extra heat / light in the day with a ceramic heat bulb and some coloured LED's.

Is the heat output of a ceramic bulb similar to that of an equivalent light bulb. For example, I use a 60w spotlight and heat pad in the winter and a 40w spotlight on its own in the summer. Will 60w and 40w ceramic heat bulbs produce the same amount of heat as 60w and 40w light bulbs?

Thanks,

Craig.

No, ceramics give off much more heat as this is what they are designed to do where as normal bulbs are made to give of light and the heat is simply a loss in efficiency.

Plenty of retics and burms
