after tinkering with the light, involving unscrewing a cap thingy when the bulb was wired in i found the bulb is 11watts. The preivous owners used it on but I havent really used it as my step mum thinks its a "fire hazard" as it singed a bit of aspen on the grill, (god knows how it got there but yeah...)

If its hot enough to burn something it should run on a stat. If you put this light on, it will increase the temp in the tank. Because you cant measure the temp, it could raise it too much and harm the snakes. I would leave it off.
