I've been recently trying to help my step sis' laptop a dell inspiron 1520 vista home premium.
And trying sign myself and her it comes up error code 800070005
Now tried; Windows firewall DISABLED
installing latest msn beta 8.1 4 times. NOPE.
googled it.. NOPE.
Any ideas? I know its not our accounts as they work on step mums laptop..
errr help?! |

Mmm about 4 times. everything containing "Windows live.." has been deleted.
On some really techy error website at the mo but not making sense im really not an IT whizz. :| |

try this mate...
if you've got a password on your computer, make sure windows live messenger is closed completely, go to control panel > user accounts and remove the password. open up windows live messenger and sign in.
if you sign in okay, go back to control panel> user accounts and set the password. |

Hi Hillzi - Can't help out with the msn but I have added Forum Subscriptions so you can get an email when someone has replied (just subscribe to the topic you have replied to) you can unsubscribe if a topic gets too hot and you get loads of emails)
The link to subscribe is at the top of each page under the login button - you can subscribe to just a topic or if you're really keen on getting an email every time someone posts... you can subscribe to a whole forum section eg: corn snake photos etc

Is it MSN messenger, or Windows live messenger?
MSN messenger is now outdated unless you're using Win2k or older.
It's been superceded by 'Windows live messenger', which is exactly the same thing, just newer and with a different name.
Go here: http://download.live.com/ and hit the download button on the right, it's the web-installer, so your machine needs to be connected to the internet to install it.
If you don't want it, then cancel the web-install download and hit the TRY AGAIN on the new page on the right.
It lets you download the FULL installation files which total 130 odd meg, but always works.
I've had the same issue as you before, and know others that have had as well, and it's usually because of outdated software.
Microsoft claim it's because there are 'security vulnerabilities' in the older versions, so most cannot connect anymore.
The error code you got is because of not being able to connect to the MSN messenger service, and technically it doesn't exist anymore so you can't connect, you have to update to 'Windows Live'.

talking of windows live messenger, i'd really like to go back to 8.5. i think the new upgrade is terrible.
