Hi i had a hatchling corn snake which i purchased in january 09. He was eaiting one pinky every hree weeks i was told that this was ok. A few days ago he seemed as if he had hurt himself as down near his neither regions his body dipped in each side then a few days after he developed a swelling about an inch long in the same area it looked as if it was waterin there. He seemed ok in his self i tried to call the shop i got him from but no answer. The next day i checked him over and the swelling had gone he seemed ok i gave him a pinky but he left it. I went to the shop and told them but they didnt seem concerned. Yesterday i went to give him another pinky and he was dead i was so shocked has any one any ideas to what he died from he was only a baby and this has upset me so much. Thankyou linda |

1 pinkie every 3 weeks is not enough food. He should have been fed 1 pinkie every 5 days or so. Im not sure if the swelling would have been caused by under feeding though. If it was the shops advise to feed so little, I would complain, epecialy as they wernt concerned about his body swelling.
Sorry for your loss. |

Sorry to hear your little guy died :(
Complain about it. They at least owe you an explanation. |

I can't believe they told you one pinky every 3 weeks was enough! That's stupid. You definitely have the right to complain (to the RSCPA and hopefully they will shut them down for knowing absolutely nothing about the animals they sell).
The lump could have been caused by lack of food, but it also could have just been a disease that you couldn't have done anything about.
Complain! |

sorry for your loss lindyloo
but OMG the poor little thing could have starved to death
just out of curiosity, did you get your viv/faun set up from them and did they make sure you had a thermostat for the heat source?
complain firmly and politely and they should let you have an exchange - depending on the shop, some would even give you your money back but this shop sounds like a bag of s***! |

Oh poor you, hope your not feeling 'got at' as it sounds like you were just fallowing the advice you were given. Shame the advice was so bad really. You obviously cared alot about your snake or you wouldn't be here trying to find out what went wrong but you really should either go back to the shop/breader and complain or report them to RSPCA or even your local council (who have to licence pet shops/ do inspections), just to help make sure this doesn't happen to somebody else. I hope this experiance doesn't put you off snakes for good as they are a very rewarding pet and are really easy to look after once your given the right advice (lewys care sheet on here is ace, sipmle enough for anyone to fallow but everything you need is there) Keep us updated on what happens and feel free to name/shame the shop on here so we can avoid it. |

This is so sad and I sorry for your loss. That snake could possibly have had 20 years ahead of it. I cannot believe a shop selling reptiles could give such poor care advise. Surely they must have known of it's ill health. I would definately go back to them and kick up a stink. I also think this place should be named so it can be avoided. |

Hi linda, the feeding advice your were given was terrible, was it actully a rep/pet shop you got it from as this person who advised you has no experience of snake keeping and should be stopped from selling and giving advise like this. |

for the sake of printing off a caresheet from t'internet or somewhere....... *sighs*
i suppose if you do your research before buying you might pick up on somebody spouting bull****, then you can walk away and find another, better shop. easily said in hindsight though. |
