im not very clued up about it myself, its all to do with the genes and dna of the snake for all them different colours and like what colour you breed with what colour to make this colour and that colour etc. i just ended up buying a normal as i was told they have the least medical problems and the person who told me that may be right, i never had any trouble with blake my snake such as regurigation or anything like that. also normals are the cheapest. other colours are alot more expensive and i dont believe that something should cost hundreds or even thousands more especially with royal pythons now its even worse <<(only rich people would pay thousands) just because that specimen is a different colour, it is the same species regardless of colour lol
what do other people recon on this subject?

its because the colour morphs are more rare than normals amels etc they take a few years of breeding to make these morphs and i believe your paying for the time/effort someone has put in to make them. I dont personally think that normals have less health problems maybe 20 years ago when they had wild genes but most normals now come from colour morph projects so would have the same (if any) problems as the morphs. theres hardly any pure normals that dont carry any genes now. a lot of the colours seem to be really cheap at the moment due to people fadding on the royal market.

hope this helps

oh right, with the health issue thing i always assumed that to create colour mutations is that it involves a bit of in breeding which is not very good for any animal?
im aware tht reptile pet shop prices can be more expensive as a shop has got to make profit and im sure theyres a bargain for someone who buys private. i strongly dont believe though that any colour morph for a corn snake or royal python should be a thousand pounds or more though, i can understand 100 or 200 pounds more but not when it start hitting thousands. i mean who in the right mind would pay it? someone thats got more money that common sense? lol or someone whos a multi millionaire lol

ok so an experienced snake breeder will pay, but what ordinary owner looking to buy a snake as a pet who doesnt buy to breed would pay a thousand pounds? lol

I'd pay it if I won the lottery, but only if it was a pretty colour

It's the same as anything. If it's rare enough but there is demand then you can charge as high as people are still willing to pay. same as diamonds, they are rare and pretty and people are prepared to pay a lot for them. If no one paid the price then it would drop, also if the morph was readily available then no one would pay the high price.

Though as more people breed and produce the same rare morphs they become more freely available, competition increases and prices fall, I'm sure normals were much more expensive when they were more exotic years back in comparison to today.
