It has been a while since i have used this forum but i need some more advice please. My corn snake seems to spend a lot of time in her cave, we have a heat mat but no basking light the temp in the viv is a constant 70f do we need a basking light and will this bring her out of her cave a bit more. She does come out at night but it must be very late because we never see her.

i never really see mine either. you have got to remember that they are nocturnal and very shy. they will be out and about while your in bed.
As for a basking lamp corns dont really bask. the lamp would just heat the hide prettymuch the same as a mat.

is it 70*C at the warm end???

70*f is only 21*C and should be the cool end temp. the warm hide should be about 86*f (30*C)

completely agree with dazb, 70*F is brrrrrrr! you need to crank the thermostat up a bit or thin out the substrate over the heatmat so more heat gets through. where and how are you measuring the temps? ie. a digital thermometer on the substrate above the heatmat, a dial thermometer half way up the wall in the middle of the viv?
and no, corns don't need basking light, she's just behaving naturally being shy in the daytime
