i had corns and beardies a few years ago but had to give them to a new home because of my job, but now im back and got a new job and settling down, so going to get a new corn, i have a 3ft viv that im going to split down the middle to put the snake in, i would just like a checklist to know that i have everything i need before getting the snake, i am not using a uv bulb just a normal ligh bulb to heat the viv, on aspen sub, i have guards for the light etc and plenty of hides anything else i need to know?

Hello Barry, welcone to the nut house.
Infer-red bulbs are good so you can see the lil luvvies when they're out at night or go for a ceramic.

was going to go for a ceramic but i would need alot more equipment, also i know the warm end should be around 26-30c but i am wondering how much this temp should drop when its night time.

heya and welcome
without a heat source it would drop to ambient room temperature overnight - chilly *C !
i'd wholly recommend using a heatmat instead of bulbs for corns so it can be on all the time. if they prefer somewhere a bit cooler then they have that option and the option to return to where it's warmer too.

essentials checklist:
appropriately sized viv/faum/tub/RUB
viv lock if necessary
heatmat, or bulb and guard
thermostat
substrate (plenty of people use aspen)
2 hides (one for each end, big enough for the snake to curl up in)
water bowl (big enough for the snake to curl up in)
thermometer (to check the stat is set up correctly)

cornsnakes, ratsnakes, bullsnakes, boas and day geckos

Well a few years back heat rocks were in, now we think they're naughty bad evil as a few too many reps have been burnt by them going wrong. (i cut the cable off mine and just use it as a basking spot now) Pretty much the same story for using heatmats without a stat attached too.

As for lightbulbs you can just use a reflective lamp bulb (about £1 in wilkos) for heat and light (through your dimming stat) or if your not bothered about more heat then an energy saving bulb will light your viv with next to no heat at all or a few people on here have used funky coloured LEDs that look really nice.
