Hi,
I'm about to upgrade my corn to a much larger vivarium. I'm not sure whether to use a heat mat or over tank heating. I've had conflicting advice about both. What would you recommend?
Cheers. Liz. |

I think corns don't get their heat from basking in sunlight - they prefer to stay hidden in hides, so if you can fit an underneath heat mat I would imagine that would provide more stable heat to the corn... |

How much bigger is the viv?
I've heard good things about Microclimate's AHS heaters in big vivs. |

I use red bulbs in my vivs. If you do put a heatmat in a viv, just make sure the snake can't come in direct contact. |

heatmat on a thermostat, it should cover one half to one third of the floor surface of the viv. |

Likewise. Ceramic during the day and heat mat at night. |

Ok thanks everyone.
I think I'm going to get a 36" vivarium and use a heat mat, the supplier has told me I would need to keep it on the inside under the substrate. Is this ok, I thought heat mats were supposed to be underneath the tank but not inside?
Cheers. |

Inside is okay, but try and get something like a floor tile(s) or some glass to cover the mat... Some people on here use floor vinyl. Which makes the tank easier to clean as well.
A matstat is a must to keep the mat at the desired temperature! They work by shutting off the electricity when the mat gets too hot.
Without a Stat your snake could burn itself or the mat could overheat and set fire to the viv!

Ok thanks.
I have a matstat and use the heat mat under the base of his current starter home but will use something to cover it when I get the new viv.
Cheers for the advice.
