Hi, i have just posted this on RFUK as well but there seems to be alot more helpful people on here so i thought i'd ask here aswell Basically, do you have to turn down the temps at night to stimulate night and day tempuratures? Ive been told by some people that turning heat down at night would make the corn ill but someone else told me that it needs to be turned down at night cause they can get hot and dehydrated or something?! i dont know wether to turn it down or not...at the moment i dont turn the heatmat down and night and she's eating fine and due a shed in the next few days. Should i start doing it and Does anyone else turn the temps down? Thanks Aimee. |

a33272 is right, i wouldn't turn down temps at night because they've got a cool end if they want it.
Thanks as well for saying about more helpful people on here, a lot of people say that.

I do turn ours down, as the guy we had him from did, and our vet told us we should also as more natural / natures way, which is my personal preference... I use a red heat bulb on dimmer stat though, not heat mat, so probably better to turn down to keep reasonable hydration cycle.
I guess, as long as snake is in good health, and there is no evidence to show that not turning it down does them no harm, then it may well be down to personal choice.

Ours have a heat bulb on during the day 8 till 8 then when that goes off they have a small mat that says on overnight. The overall viv temp drops a bit but the heat is still there if they want it. |

We don't change ours, but you would expect a slight dip in temperatures anyway at night. I know the vivs have their own little heat supply, but the room temperature in the house also effects it sometimes. I know this because a few weeks ago when we had that really cold spell of freezing temps, every bodies snakes went off their dinner |

I turn off the heat lamp in our viv at night about 9-10ish and then it goes on about 9 the next morning. The reason for it is simply that he wasn't very active and I thought he was getting stressed because of light and temp all the time, he is more active now. |

the light on over nigt would upset his 'body clock' however the overnight temperatures here in the UK are much colder than in their native country so I'd strongly recommend getting a heat mat (and stat) so you can provide heat without the light. |

cheers for the replys. Yeah she's only in a faunarium(sp?) at the moment so she has a heatmat with stat and i think i'll continue to keep it at normal temps as long as its not going to cause any problems. But when i move her up to a bigger viv i will use a bulb. Is it better to have a heatmat for the night aswell then for when you turn the bulb off? |

corns don't need basking heat like some other species prefer so personally i use heatmats on 24/7 for all of mine, the lighting is only to see what i'm doing cleaning out. |
