the latest stats say '229 photos of 156 different morphs'
i've spent half an hour or so looking through the pics (i like looking at pretty snakes, working out the genetics and finding out what weird and wonderful new morphs have appeared) but it got me thinking, a lot of the colour morphs are starting to look quite similar, particularly if you allow for and natural variation in the intensity of the colour. just looking at the yellow-based morphs: amber butter caramel diffused amber diffused butter diffused caramel honey hypo butter sulphur topaz
visually a particularly light or dark or bright example of one morph could easily be mistaken for another but a mistaken identity could wreek havoc for somebody's breeding programme.
no idea where i'm going with this train of thought but comments and thoughts welcome

Im starting to think people are trying to make alot more of what they have. For example a snow thats a fraction whiter than another one and people look to claim it as something else. |

genetically it probably is different though visually it's 'another snow'
so there's more than one way to make a particular coloured snake........... something about skinning and cats??
and that's not even taking into consideration people giving old morphs new names............ |

I've seen alot that look alike also (I like looking at pics to :P). I think people make same morphs and just name them differently to sell them lol. |

Speaking to a few shops lately and they are all remarking on the amount of non feeding corn snakes they have. They are blaming the OVER creation of morphs, and the increased number of siblings bred to parents etc. Can't be right the amount of inbreeding some less reputable breeders are doing to create more and more "specialised" morphs quicker |
ooops, I bought another......... |

Yeah, there is a tendancy for people to rush these things which destroys genetic diversity and causes problems.
Im not saying morphs are wrong but if done slowly there would definantly be less damage. |

It's a shame really as at this rate, most of these beautiful morphs won't be viable after a few generations time :( |
