hi all, ive moved my little girl up to fuzzy mice only last week, she has been on 4-5 pinkies every 5 days with no probs, she ate 3 fuzzys last week but today she is struggling to eat her first one, there is substrate all over it and she is in a bit of a pickle with it, any ideas? do they regurgitate substrate or digest it? what should i do? tom

Ok - firstly never feed your snake directly on its substrate - if they swallow substrate it can cause impaction and ultimately kill them. Tiny bits should pass through ok but its better not to take the risk. Put down a piece of paper or something if you're feeding in the viv, otherwise take out your snake and feed it in its hatchling box or an empty cat litter tray or RUB.

It could be that the particular fuzzy is too big or she is aware of the substrate and doesn't know how to deal with it - if you can get it off her it might be better than letting her swallow all that substrate.. and try feeding her again tomorrow.

i think you should definately start feeding her out side the viv if the substrate is sticking to the prey item like SS said. its not good if they swallow it at all...(wot substrate are you using?)

4-5 pinkys every 5 days is alot of food. wen mine was taking 2 pinkys regular he moved up to 1 fuzzy. as long as the fuzzy is no greater than 1.5 times the size of the widest part of the snake it will be fine...

how old is she???
