Hi guys
i picked up my first baby corn today, he/she is just so cute!! its nearly 8wks old, it is currently in one of those cricket/bug containers (, the lady breeder i got it from said it'll be fine in that for another 6-8wks!!! is that right??!!!
also she said she keeps all her corns at room temperature, i have done my research and read lots of care sheets before purchasing and assumed that it would need a heat pad at one end of the enclosure/viv.
hate calling it "it" but not chosen a name yet.

Hi, the problem with keeping them at room temperature is that reptiles are cold blooded. This means that they can't thermoregulate, the need to move somewhere warm when they need to warm up and cold when they need to cool down.
They need heat to properly digest food. I would suggest a thermostatically-controlled heatmat under 1/3 of the container. |

most breeders use the live food tubs or plastic tubs like you get a chinese take away in (clean of course!!) size wise it's probably adequate for the next 6-8 weeks as corns don't like large open spaces. As for heating ideally you should have a heatmat on a thermostat. the heatmat should be under half to a third of the floorspace regardless of the size of the enclosure - this allows the snake to regulate it's own temperature. Generally cornsnakes do well with a hot end around 30*C, keeping a snake at room temperature means it may have trouble digesting it's food, they're native to America/Florida not the UK and paeticularly this time of year it get damn cold when the central heating goes off at night! BTW heya and welcome |

Sorry sexychef, the toads I have are poisonous... would probably kill little hogT, but Nagini is always hungry for a hoggie
If I get a pacman frog they'd probably eat a baby hog too. They'll eat anything, when big they'll eat xl mice, lizards, snakes, all sorts (although If I got one it would only get mice as a treat and be on locusts, worms, hoppers and crickets)
Here's one on U-tube...

I'm just waiting until I find the right one... done all the research |

I don't know which would eat which - But pacman frogs grow pretty big, African bull frogs even bigger. Not sure which to get yet, but I'm doing my research first. |
