Hi i had a wicked day yesterday took my to babys to my sons school yesterday morning it is a school for disabled children as my son is disabled and i got his teachers to actually hold my snakes which was very hard to do and the kids loved them, i was shocked at how well Apophis and Chyna took to the children, cos Chyna is still really skittish but was very calm and actually went on to the childrens hands, so just thought i'd share that with everyone and i have been told to take them every couple of mnths so they can see how they progress in size. |

Birch and Spruce sometimes go to the nursery my little girl now goes to, i do a little talk about them then let the kids handle them, they're usually very well behaved (snakes and kids!!) |

My 3 are going into school tomorrow, it'll be their 3rd outing now to school now, they'll have a better education than me soon!!
As mine go to a secondary school, after having about quarter of an hour out of the trans-rubs they have a feed as well. Has anyone ever shown that to school kids? Even the ones that you'd normally see giving abuse on the street corners become nice kids when they see it. Even i find it fascinating watching them feed still. |

never thought about feeding them on their trips out............... wouldn't be appropriate for the younger kids at the nursery Birch and Spruce go to but i bet the older ones (After school club) would love it! great idea Kehhlyr |

My 3 had a thouroughly enjoyable day today. We were there from about 3.15-4.30pm and they all had a wander around and a hold from the kids in school (except Sid), and then they all had a nice bit of grub on the table, which was brilliant because all the kids could see them eating and ask questions about it and stuff like that.
I do highly recommend doing a feeding in the schools, i've now done 'school feeding' 3 times now and it's been really enjoyable. The children always ask questions anyway, but when they see the snakes eating brings on a completely different set of questions.
Michaeltheo, I took mine in their RUBS, as it's only a 3-4 mile journey they were okay in them in the car footwell with c/c on. As for not being sure what to say, I've always found it easier to introduce the snake (they very rarely ask who you are!!) then just tell them it can't hurt you (much) and it's about 'x' years old, it's name is..... After that questions start rolling in and it's easier just to answer them as they come. |

the same as me i took them also in there RUB cos my sons school is about a mile away and we were there for about an hour and u don't have to say much of ur own back cos they do all the question asking and u just answer them yhe type of questions they ask are how long do they live, how big they, what they eat and how often etc. i recommend doing cos it's enjoyable seeing there faces and watching them hold them etc, really good fun. |

I usually introduce the snakes, say originally this kind of snake comes from America and ask for a show of hands who's been to Florida or in particular Disneyland - usually a good ice-breaker then go on to say more about the individul snakes like their age, colour, temperament etc.
I've only found one child who didn't want to hold a snake. |
