I feel relieved now cos my baby corn finally shed, must have been early hours of the morning came of in one full shed. I came down this morning and there it was the shed skin sitting in the tank, is there supposed to be holes were the eyes were. |

No. You should be able to see the eye caps in the shed, if the head is in one piece. It may be that there are bits of the head missing from the shed. Check your snakes eyes for retained eye caps. If they are stuck, you will need to help to remove them. |

Are you sure that the eye caps are not in the shed? Try putting something through the hole as they are very clear, or reflecting light off the holes.
If you are certain, place him in a bath with his head under water, dont hold him, just let him put his own head under.... after a while, once softened wipe a soft towel over his head and eyes and try lifting the caps off with a cotton bud.
As long as you dont poke him in the eye, you wont hurt him. Their eyes are not as sensitive as ours, if you think about what they put their heads through, long grass, substrates, earth, sand, leaves, branches etc
If you look closely at his eyes, holding his head, you will see the caps if they are retained. |

My corn won't come near me at the min when i try i buries itself under the substrate, so i can't pick it up to bath it. Could this be because it has just shed? |

Not usually. If it is burying its head, it might be trying to rub its eyes. You need to just pick it up and see. Dont be worried by it. |

i got it out put some tepid water in a washing up bowl it looks like it has a bit of the eye caps left not all of it just the top of the eyes, but it wont put it's head under the water and keeps trying to get out the bowl.So i used a wet cotton wool bud but it wont stay still long enough to do anything so i just kept running the bud over its eyes but it don't seem to have done anything so i got a soft flannel i brought and let her run through that but that aint worked either. |

Thats it i don't know for sure it looks like there is something there but i could be wrong all i know is there are holes were the eyes are in the shed skin. I have tried to take a pic of it's eyes but it wont stay still long enough, i can take a pic of the shed skin and u can see what i mean about the eye holes. |

yes do that. the eyes are very clear to see on the shed.
try putting a moist hide in his viv to aid in the losening of the caps and he may be able to sort himself out by burrowing though his substrate. |

Yes BE, he could have waited, but my thinking was, as the snake has only just shed, they will still be soft, along with his post that the snake is burying its head.
The risk of leaving retained eye caps, is that they can, in the worse case, cause infection and blindness. In the not so worse case, it causes the snake not to see properly until its next shed. Generically, i try to give advice that covers all snakes, because if he reads for one type of snake, it may be practiced on another. Make sense?
Royals, for example, can get dimples in their eye ball through dehydration or dry air. Now a retained eye cap on a royal would cause it pain, in that case.
Always best to remove IMO. |
