Sorry BE, just saw your question here.
I put the heat mat on the underside of the lid instead of the bottom of the incubator, so that the heat is on the eggs quicker and more efficiently, as when you open the lid, some heat escapes and that heat is pretty much instantly back when the lid is closed. I found that if you heat from the bottom, the heat has to penetrate through the tubs and hatching substrate, which is why i aslo use a fridge fan to circulate the air so the temps are constant. Also, if i remove any eggs that have gone bad, or reduce the level of substrate, i can keep them on the bottom and in the incubator without cooking. Finally, if any hatch and i miss them coming out of the egg and they end up within the incubator and on the floor of it, they could burn themselves on the mat, if it is on the bottom, and with the water, for humidity, being on the bottom, they can also drink it.
Ppl have different ways, preferences and set-ups, but this works for me. |
