(ADMIN moved from reptile photos)
The more I peek at snakeys, the more I keep bumping into these little treasures, and after I get my corn, I'm not sure I'll be able to hold out that long before I get a hoggie!
I just have one question - everything I've read says they very rarely bite, but what happens if they DO bite you. They are mildly venomous, right? I'm just curious because with my emperor scorpions I have, its advised you pop into your doctors for some pain killers/just to make sure you aren't allergic... but I have no idea for hoggies :)
Any knowledge will be most appreciated :D |

They probably won't bite- the only photos I've seen of bites are by people who have forced a bite on themselves to see what happens.
They are rear fanged so they have to latch on really well and prolonged to actually get the venom in you and the venom they have is there purely for eating purposes. They have different techniques for protection like their hood defensive 'dance' and the playing dead.
Hoggies are great pets, Wilbur is my favourite snake at the moment- just don't tell the others |

GP: Ohhhhmyyyygooooodddd I'm a bit scared of them now.. I read an ad somewhere (preloved maybe?) saying "ideal first child's snake.." after seeing those photos I'm a little dubious..!
Kaz - I take it Wilbur has never gone for you I guess its most likely as an accidental feeding response if you aren't goading them into it, right? Hmm... *takes mental note* I'm glad I have feeding tongs!
I guess a trip to the doc might be a good idea.. that kind of swelling would mean time off work for me!
Cheers guys *peeks at hoggies on teh interwebs* |

That Gp is a scare monger- they are soft really!
Wilbur does his little scare performance, but he's never gone for me.

Superchef- you've a right display to look forward to!
It's really funny when Wilbur gets his hood out. He's a brave little soldier to try and scare a big giant like me off |
