I have just got the bug for snakes, Can you tell me if my set up is ok for rat snake. viv 39"L X 20"H X 14"D heat mat with thermostat with probe touching mat, digi thermometer also with probe on mat. 60 watt energy saving light bulb on celing of viv wood chippings on floor 2 cork bark hides in viv and water bowl. |

The size viv you have described would suit a 5' snake, so should be about right for a Rat. |

Sounds good to me but I would get a bulb guard for the light bulb or get a low watt (9 or 15 W) bulb to avoid burns. Is the heat mat about 1/3 the size of the viv floor? |

If the length + width of the viv is equal or bigger to the length of the snake, then the viv is large enough. |

lenght of viv is 39 inches but the snake is only 18 inches. seems a bit big. |

viv sounds fine for that size snake, post some pics so we can have a look too Mitch BTW you didn't pick up a Jap Rat from Donny show did you??? |
