Hi everyone, what a shock ive just had. Went to check on Stanlee there and found "him" with eggs!!! Now, im not bothered that he is really a she but it gets deeper. While she has been home with us ,shes been by herself. But before I bought her, she was co-habiting with another snake......so I don't know if these eggs are slugs or indeed im gonna be a granny! Poor wee pet is only 14 months old..ish.. .im new to snakes, only got her on 13/6/14. Havnt a baldy about caring for eggs. Shes been off her food ( refused her food on Thursday)has been dancing around her viv, burrowing etc. I thought it was breeding behaviour or maybe shedding again. Last shed was 14/6/14. Didn't see eggs last night , just part of her sticking up through substrate but when I looked this morning there was something white.I thought she had maybe shed again until I lifted the wood and found eggs!!! Don't want to move her as I don't know if shes finished yet..... Any help and advise would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance :) User avatar |

They are gonna incubate them and keep me posted as to what happens. They reckon at least 3 of the 6 are fertile. They said I could have them back when ready but I think its best for the hatchlings if they go to new homes. Id loved to have given it a go but felt I wasn't ready/able to with being so new to snakes. Im still trying to get the hang of looking after Stanlee lol I really appreciate your offer of help and advice, thanks again Thanks Mort13 for ur reply

Posted - 30/06/2014 : 18:09:54 Mis sexed corn snakes is quite common. Basically you have a choice, do you want to try and incubate the eggs or not. If you do your best option is to make a poly box incubator. You will need a polystyrene box, a small heat matt , matt stat and a digital thermometer with a probe. Also a plastic air tight box and some perlite to go in the egg box. Which is quite easy to make ( I will go through the steps of making one if you decide you want to. You can normally tell when they have finished laying as there quite thin so any remaining eggs in your snake will be quite obvious. When you do remove the eggs you can try offering her a smaller than normal item of food (she might not eat until after she sheds again which will be her post lay shed). Let me know if there's anything else you need to know and I will try to help |
