Posted - 04/06/2012 : 12:17:40 my eggs are around the 50 day mark now and ive heard if snakes double clutch they will lay around the same time as the first clutch hatches?
i only ask because my female has been rather active this morning snooping about her viv for the past few hours (in what seems to be a non-restless fashion)
i cant see or feel any eggs in her, and tbh i'd rather she didn't have a double, shes still a little underweight from the first clutch
will there be any signs? another pre lay shed perhaps?

Posted - 04/06/2012 : 16:14:28 Hey,
Last year about 20% of our females double clutched. We don't remate them at all. They are likely to go in to shed just before the eggs from the first clutch hatch. It is usually quite easy to tell if the female is gravid again if you let her run over your fingers, they are usually quite small after the first clutch.
I would keep a lay box in there with her just in case.

Posted - 04/06/2012 : 15:27:25 you get exactly the same sign of laying as the first clutch.
Its not all that uncommon for double clutches, but only one of ours has this season. |
