Is there always a pre-lay shed?

Did look but no answers I could find. Just wondering if its possible for a corn to lay eggs without a prelay shed? Char is looking every big and bulky so I am expecting to seem some duds soon but she looks like she is about to burst or lay them soon but her last shed was at the start of February. I haven't had chance to look at her properly as she is in one of those hides which is difficult to get the snake out but from her mid section she looks very bulky and then bulks out again near the tail :(

If she does lay duds do you think it's wise for me to find someone to give her the snip. She is 12 years old now, I manage to get her up to a nice healthy weight of 300-350g (she's a small snake!) and then she kind of undoes the work and lays eggs and ends up looking so underweight.
