Hi guys
Myself and a friend are hoping to try and breed our corns after discovering her big adult "male" is actually a female its not being done for profit and any succesfull hatchlings will be kept or distributed amongst friends/fellow keepers we are more than prepared for the fact that we will probably just get a bunch of normals if we are lucky enough to hatch anything!
we figure if we just aim for normals anything else is a bonus lol
I have a few queries though we are wondering about the dos and donts
Should we introduce the male to the female or vice versa does it
matter ?
is there any way to tell if they are receptive towards each other ?
How long should they be left together and is there any risk of them fighting or hurting each other if the matings unsuccesfull
Do the snakes have to be prepared in anyway beforehand eg cooled fed less/more etc or after ?
We really want to try our hand at breeding to prove out some hets and also just gain some experiance as i said this isnt a profit gaining project just for fun and to expand our collections (hopefully)

Thanks mike really appreciate the info well i know my friends female is adult and over 4ft and well over 300grams Eddies not as big i must weigh him actually but hes almost 2 yyears old and quite long hes a pig to measure and weight though so will do that today.
They wont be left unattended at any point though so you think its best to put them together for a few sessions untill we witness a lock then ? really want to take the safest option id rather not breed if it poses any risk to either snake |

Very simply, introduce the female to the male, although normally it wont make a huge difference, but thats 'normal' behaviour, whether the female is receptive or not, hes gonna have a damn good go anyway, at some point she will relent and he will get his end away, size is important here, 300g is minimum, but it depends on the size of the snake, my anery female is 450g, good size yeah?? not really, if i bred her, she would likely die, shes a genuine over 5ft snake, so would need to be about 600g absolute minimum. You can leave them together, but you are better off separating them and re introducing them a couple of days later, just to make sure the job is done.
Ideally, they could/should be cooled, but you dont need to, it just improves their chances, but it wont stop them breeding if they are not cooled.
The chances of them fighting are slim to none, but that doesnt mean you can ignore them once together. |

Doesn't give much info during each month on feeding though as in a year or so I will have my third corn - a female, and a setup for breeding, as I got in contact with a reptile specialist who will take my hatchlings off me after a few successful feeds |
