hi
i was just wondering if i breed two carolina corn snakes, will all the hatchlings be carolina's or will it be a random batch that could contain anything?

You should expect all normals, anything else is a bonus

In short - your snakes will have genes for their colors. There are dominant and recessive colors. In my case, I have 2 wild type snakes. This means they'll have genes for the wild type (lets call that gene W for wild) but because they got amel hatchlings, apparently they also have genes for Amel (lets call those genes A).

If I were to write it down, the genes of my snakes would be Wa and Wa (both have wild and amel). The reason I wrote the W upper case and the a lower case is because wild type is dominant over amel - even though both my adult snakes have genes for amel, their fenotype (the way they look) is wild type.

When my two snakes bred, there was a chance of getting the following combos:

WW (wild type)
Wa (wild type)
aW (wild type)
aa (amel)

So if your snakes are heterozygous for another color, there's a chance you'll get hatchlings of whatever color they are heterozygous for :).
(note: this explanation is not entirely correct or complete, but a very simplified one that should give you an idea of the genetics :). If you're interested in a more complete view, I found a guide for you here: http://www.pitt.edu/~mcs2/herp/genetics.html)

hets are short for heterozygous, and the explanation is very long and quite complicated, there are a number of threads on here going into it, its worth having a search for it.

what thewy are het for? can you explain a bit more please?

It depends on what they are het for ^^. I had a 2x normal cross and i got some lovely amels out of that <3
