Now, I'll happily admit that breeding isn't my strongpoint.

My horny little hypo stripe male ('10) was introduced to my ghost motley stripe 08 female on the 29th of April, so 4 weeks tomorrow. They were locked within a few minutes, and there was definitely spermy action....

They were then left together for 2 weeks, though I observed no further locks.

As of yet the female looks and acts no different- no major weight gain, grumpyness or signs of going into shed.

How much longer should I leave it before I either start to see signs or give up and try again? Internet opinions are pretty varied.

Cheers.

Cheers Jamie and Louise, fed her on thursday evening and she took a chick, still didn't look all that different, went to check on her today and she is in shed and suddenly looking very bulky!! I would say I'm 80% sure its a pre-lay shed, as she shed not very long ago, but could just be me getting my hopes up!!

Hi Rach, Yeah same as GP! Some of mine didnt even look gravid at all and i couldnt feel eggs when trying to feel them with my fingers! But then laid 14eggs or so! Some have slightly softer bellies so you can see and feel the eggs better!

You could always put the male back in with her for an hour and see if she is receptive? As sometimes they dont catch the first time!

Keep us updated!

tbh i'd give her another month, she might only be half way at this stage

Aye, she's got a laybox which she seems very content with, just wondering how much longer I can leave it before calling it quits.

there was no noticeable change in Asha this year, she started to shed about when i'd expect her to so i put a lay box in for her just in case.........glad i did!!
