Posted - 22/12/2010 : 19:14:50 males will breed from around 1.5 years old, but if they are left until 2 or 3 yrs there is more chances of a full healthy clutch.
Size matters too with the male, if the female is too big for him he'll have no chance (it won't stop him trying though!) |

silly question, but is it the same age etc for the male to be safe to breed?
males can be younger to be used for breeding, there is not such a big risk to him as there is for a female. But just make sure hes not too small to be intimidated by the female. |

Posted - 20/12/2010 : 20:48:34 brumation is not required for corns, all my breeders are more than willing without it and I get good size clutches (20+) with a very good hatch rate :) |

Posted - 19/12/2010 : 21:31:25 if she's only on two small mice then I'd say 'at the moment' she is too small to breed. You'll have a better idea once she's been weighed though - and theres still a good few months before breeding season kicks in. |

Posted - 19/12/2010 : 15:09:59 It can be difficult to tell an age because snakes grow at different rates. The best policy would be to wait until she's 300gs and at least 3 feet long then give it another six months or so just to be on the safe side. Or you could wait until you've had her 3 years so you're 100% sure of her age. It won't hurt to wait but you could run into problems if she's too young. |

Posted - 19/12/2010 : 14:59:50 Follow the "3's" rule: 3 feet long, 300gs weight and 3 years old. Don't have to brumate first, up to you.... |
