I've noticed the past day or 2 since the weather has been absolutly smoldering that Cleo hasn't come out of her cold end hide. After checking numerous time throughout the day I've not seen her and began to think she'd escaped! But after lifting her cold end hide up there she is. I can only think she's not moved.

I'm thinking its because of the heat in the bedroom, the windows are all open but its still red hot as the sun rises and sets this side of the house. The temperatures in the hot end seem fine and haven't increased (they're at 28c) though due to loosing job I haven't yet got a digi thermometer in the cold end so not sure if its warmed up that side a little?

She has her water bowl to bath in if she gets too warm but I just haven't seen her so I'm getting a lil worried?!

Sorry for the essay I hope you all understood it, any help or ideas would be much appreciated.

Matt

Definite brain fog moment ....should have worked that one out, especially as I linked it to another recent thread about the hot weather!

Jake seems to be loving the hot weather.I've never seen him so active!

Highly unlikely, as mentioned, the heat is still about ten degrees lower than they would get in their natural habitat, the recomended 28 degrees is an all round temp, a mean temp, so in reality, temperature fluctuations are not really an issue. Same goes for higher temps, a peak of say 35 is not a drama, just not all year round.

I have an adult male who spends all day underneath his aspen and my female doesnt want to eat. Could this be to do with the heat?

Temps are fine, it gets a lot hotter than this in their natural habitat. As long as they are out of direct sunlight.

Checkout this thread as the topic of the hot weather has been discussed - http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10458

The conclusion that has been come to is that the snakes can cope with this hot weather better than we can! I certainly wouldnt turn the heatmat off....as long as it is controlled by a thermostat it should turn itself off when the temp is such that it isnt needed.

The snakes are able to move to the cool end, burrow to escape the heat....and I bet they are out having fun in the cool of the night when all sensible people are asleep. As long as they have water to drink I really dont think it is anything to worry about. Just keep your windows open and curtains shut to stop direct sunlight into the room....and try to stop worrying - although I am finding that hard to do!

Inkiepixie - why the mention of :necromancy:? That is the belief in magic spells and communicating with the spirits isnt it??

:necromancy:

I keep all my snakies' hot ends around 28C - I've noticed Bella being very active recently at her cold end whereas Luna is completely the opposite, although she's nearly always at her cold end too. With the heatwave at the moment do you think maybe I should turn the temps down or maybe even switch them off completely? Bella's heat mat shares a plug with the dishwasher and when I u8nplugged her the other day her hot end didn't go below 27 after four hours...

Casper and Reggie are out as normal but the cool end temps are upto around 24c all day up untill around 7-8pm when they start to drop. I do have the windows open to try and cool the room down a bit and it feels a little cooler to me untill you get the sun in.

But they're active as usual so it dosn't seem to have bothered them too much. The only reason candy isn't out and about is because shes coming upto a shed. and Rocky is permanently out, hes asleep at the minute but hes just slumped himself in the corner in the warm side. He's normly active from around 1-2pm up till well after i go to bed. Then when my sister comes running in at 7:30am he still up and about.

Yeh Cleo is normally always out. She normally just lounges around her RUB not really too botherd if I have a gander in. She normally only goes into her cold end hide when she's had something to eat but for some reason I've never seen her in her warm end hide which is bizzare.

I have about 80% of the house windows open with all doors open so I know air is circulating to help cool down a little.

Maybe it isn't the heat and she's really tierd or something and just can't be bothed to move lol!

One of mine that never comes out is out all the time time and Venom who is always out is now hiding... I know what you mean, all my bedroom widows are open and the cool end is reading 23-25 no matter what I do, I've opened all the windows in the house as well and my room does not get sunlight directly. Think I'm going to have to buy a fan :/
