Posted - 29/03/2010 : 12:27:44 Sorry ive not been on as much as i would like lately, been really busy.
Stella is doing great, she shed on saturday morning, 4th shed with me, it was perfect from eye caps to tail tip. So really pleased with that.
The shed measured 2' 9" so she i would guess she is about 2.5 foot long.
She weighed 65g on Saturday and is taking Fluffs now (about 12g).
Does this all sound about right? She is almost 10 months old.
Yesterday i put her a light in, purely so that i can see her at night as its quite dark in her viv.
I have just used a normal energy bulb, will this be okay?
Thanks
Gaz

LUCKY LUCKY man, our son didn't do that long in one go till he was 18 months old. Nearly killed us..... |

Gaz, I know this is a little petty, but if you use a low energy bulb rather than a normal one, it'll save you money, save the environment, but more importantly they take a few mins to get to full brightness, so don't shock snakes so much. One of my 10 year old snakes jumps up if I turn the light on suddenly :)
By saying energy bulb i think that it what he used. Shops arn't supposed to sell the old style bulbs now anyway. |

Kellog - Thanks alot. Didnt get to see her shed, she fed last week and then when she usually comes out after 48 hours, she stayed in her hide. I thought she was unwell at first, then remembered it was 5 weeks since her shed so she is due. I left her to it and didnt handle her for almost a week, she stayed in her hide completely through blue and then i found the shed on saturday morning. It was such a relief to see it complete! Its the first time she has shed since the one when she lost the tip of her tail.
My fiancee(not wife yet!!! Lol) is doing good thanks, we are getting about 8 hours sleep which is pretty good for a 5 week old baby i think! She goes to sleep at about 9pm after her feed, sleeps till 1am, then goes back to sleep about 2am till 6am. Then i feed her and go out for the gym before work. So weve got into a good routine quite quickly.
How are Kellog and Silvesta doing?
Thanks
Gaz
Oops....sorry, usually put OH so I dont make the mistake of assuming it is a wife/fiancée/girlfriend/or other .
Pretty good is an understatement , it is amazing that Ellie-Mai is doing so well at just 5 weeks old - my 2nd had an immature gut so constant colic which meant I was up with him virtually every hour through the night. I used to hate it when mums said how their babies were sleeping through and then asked how well was mine sleeping ! You two are obviously doing a great job with her for her to be so settled and sleeping so well. It is lovely to hear you getting the chance to do your bit as well, it is lovely for the dad to have some bonding time in these first weeks and months and all too often they miss out.
I had totally forgotten about Stella's problems with her tail tip, so no wonder you were relieved to see a full shed....including tail tip . It is a shame you missed it, but you have many many many years ahead in which you MAY get the chance to see it happen (or not if Stella stays sneaky like most snakes do when they shed )
Kellog and Silvesta are ok, I think . Kellog is definitely horny, not eating and climbing the walls. Silvesta is behaving sort of horny and being difficult to feed, only eating 1 mouse instead of 2 and that is only after warming and braining and leaving him in a box with it. He has also not put on much weight despite eating. He is more active than usual, but not nearly as active as Kellog....so not quite sure what is going on . Thanks for asking about them.
As I said before, it is good to have you back and I cant wait to see pics of Stella as soon as you can get them up (no pressure of course )
xxx
By the way, you need to update your bio info now....you have a new addition to the family !

Posted - 29/03/2010 : 18:21:52 Sounds like Stella is doing great! It's scary to think how small Dimika is compared to her She's a year old on April 21st, and she is only 21" and 35g in total... She's a bit on the small side, but has been growing rapidly lately (recent shed). Hope everything is ok with Stella
EDIT: Need some pictures soon! |

Posted - 29/03/2010 : 12:34:34 Glad to hear stella is doing ok. Hows the baby?
Everything sounds good to me,
The light bulb will be fine aslong as you have a guard around it, don't want stella to burn herself |
