Posted - 28/03/2010 : 16:15:13 I failed in finding Aubiose at Downtown (along with other things T.T) but found Megazorb but I'm not sure it's really suitable or not. They seem fine at the moment with it but I was wondering if anyone had used it with any reptiles before. I've read that some people used it but prefered to use other stuff. I'm worried it might be kinda dusty or the pieces to small. Right now when they flicker their tongues out it moves the pieces about.
It feels so soft though *_* I bet they will love burrowing in it. |

Posted - 01/04/2010 : 17:47:17 Actually I lied silly me on my search on the internets for Auboise I saw 1kg bags on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Aubiose-bedding-1Kg-Bag_W0QQitemZ130374368333QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxq20100315?IMSfp=TL100315142001r9879
I don't think they would as that would be unfair fair the horse owners, I think they might be a bit shocked though.

Posted - 01/04/2010 : 15:55:01 To be honest, I don't they will make smaller bags since it is meant for horses and a bag of Megazorb looks like it will last me 5 or 6 months when used in an adults viv. As longs as it's stored so not a lot of moisture can get at it, it will be fine. |

Posted - 01/04/2010 : 10:16:01 I've never heard of MagaZorb till today however I was told about using Hemcore or Aubiose for bedding because it was cheaper than Aspen and had a very similar texture to aspen. So I decided to have a good look around for a supplier in or around the Barnsley area. Although there are a couple that sell it, they only do it in 20Kg bales, which is way too much for me to use without it going off.
I have been in touch with the makers of HemCore and they said that they will be looking into making smaller bales (5kg and 10kg) and also removing the Citronella from it for reptile keepers. I contacted them because I was a bit worried that the Citronella in their HemCore product might have some effect on Sid (it is used as a repellent to repel flies and other creatures).
I am still awaiting a reply back from the makers of Aubiose about them doing smaller bales for reptile keepers.
It's a lot cheaper than Aspen costing about £10 for a 20Kg bale, but it wold take me all year to use that amount and by the time I'd get round to using half of it, ti would have started to go off.
So if there are any horse owners in Barnsley that could skim off a couple of Kg of Aubiose I would be happy to pay for it. |

Posted - 30/03/2010 : 16:36:25 You will prob find its a little static that's making the specs stick to the snake, whatever you use there is going to be some amount of dust, as I said, in 4 months I have not had any problems with it, or any of the animals on it. |

Posted - 30/03/2010 : 11:06:03 Venom seems to love it so far! He has been burrowing his head in it and then going to sleep with the rest of his bottom half in plain site XD I'm surprised Char hasn't had a go at burrowing as whenever she's active, that's all she normally does. The only thing that is bothering me a bit is that when he sticks his head back up, there's like little speckles of dusty substrate stuff on him.
Char had a poop though on it, it absorbed the smell more than I thought it would and it clumped very nicely together.
I think I need to buy some Aubois and compare though really.
Is there really such a thing as non printed newspaper? It wouldn't be very newsful :p |

Posted - 30/03/2010 : 10:44:10 I used Megazorb for my mice and hamsters, I loved the stuff. I believe on the whole it would be the wood pulp that didnt make it to becoming newspaper, the same stuff used for egg boxes. I believe the non printed on newspaper stuff is accepted as a suitable substrate by many this is just clumps of the same IMO. |

Posted - 29/03/2010 : 11:57:39 Yeh I can't see to find what it's made our now that you mention it... there's no website for it either. The bag didn't even have how much it weighed on it either but I did eventually find out it's weight. I can't smell pine or anything woody to be honest, I smell cardboard and egg boxes lol. I couldn't see Hemcore there either, it was just sawdust, sawdust treated with bug repel and horsey food and Megazorb.
I really want my snakey's to poop now on it XD I want to see what it's like. They haven't been burrowing in it either which makes me kinda sad but they never really burrow unless it's that time of year and they go hyper. |

Posted - 29/03/2010 : 10:36:27 I have been using megazorb for about 4 months now, I have had no problems with it at all. We use it for the rats too, its very good at keeping the smell down. |

Posted - 29/03/2010 : 03:29:19 I have never heard of Megazorb before so a googled it and this is what I found -
MEGAZORB has one of the highest absorbency of any horse bedding currently on the market thus reducing the time and cost of mucking out. MEGAZORB is available year round, and is biodegradable and cost effective. As MEGAZORB is produced from a by-product of the wood-pulping industry, that would normally go to waste, it is also helping the environment and being totally biodegradable is easy and cheap to dispose of.
And many other descriptions saying exactly the same thing. What would concern me is that you have no idea what wood is being used....so how can you be sure that none of the wood used is toxic? I may be totally wrong but it was the first thing I thought of when I read the details.
I dont know of anyone that uses it. When I couldnt get Aubiose I got Hemcore, which is basically the same thing....made from the hemp plant that we know is ok to use for snakes.
But wait and see what others think before jumping to any conclusions....
