as title really was just wondering what sort of size viv will be good for an adult sized corn.

I am looking to build a stack and I am in the design phase at the minute
and would like to make it so he/she is comfortable.

About 4 and half foot. 4x1x1 will be plenty big enough.

There are some of those steps on e bay too but I cannot find any on any website. I think I might go and try and find them in person as measurement n height are alright but seeing them in person will give me a better idea. The 2 step one is 25x22x22 cm incase anyone was wondering. I think that that one will be more suitable for vivs that are like 1ft heigh. They are also quite heavy, they are around 2kg so even my fatty should be fine on it XD

I hope they will fit ok in the new vivs I plan to get. Hopefully they are not made from pine... I imagine they are ,ade from a harmless wood since animals can eat them. Funny thing is I've read reviews on them, and most of the animals they are aimed for eat them rather than climb on them lol.

eeee I really hope that if I go to downtown tomorrow that they will have these :3 I was also looking at child's stools, they would also be fine I think but a bit pricey for what they will be used for but I guess this would be good for bigger snakes.

I have an adult corn in a 4ft long, 2ft high and 18 inch wide viv, and she definatly doesnt need all the space.

I don't think they would need treating but i don't know, it does actually say they are untreated but also dosn't mention which type of wood they are made from.

thanks for that sta~ple, they look great!! can someone just confirm these could be used and wouldn't need treating please?

My snakes don't have anything to climb on at the moment, apart from wire and the side of the viv sadly. I have been looking into trying to give them some height to their viv but never found a suitable solution until now! Sadly I can't seem to find any on the internet :/ and I live too far away from where she got them from. Hopefully when I go to Downtown soon they will have some. I wonder if they would be suitable for adult snakes, they look like they could if they were big enough.

Edit: NM I found some on Amazon, there for rats and bunnies :3

Look quite heigh soI might have to get the smaller one T.T http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rabbit-Guinea-Wooden-Shelter-Stairs/dp/B000WFFZ94/ref=pd_bxgy_lp_img_b

It's also untreated as animals can eat it so it migt be good to treat it first.

Indeed, that is the kind of thing that i want in my vivs, come up to bed late last night and seen reggie climbing on his plants and stuff so when they do go upto vivs will deffinitely be looking for something they can climb on and curl up on.

I just screwed through the sides of the viv to hold a shelf on in my vivs, but that is a permanant fixture, not something that can be moved easily.
I haven't got a heatmat on the shelf, I have a larger heatmat for the bottom of the viv, it covers something that's about halfway between a 3rd and half the floor of the viv.

I know Medusa09 bought some wooden 'steps' that Medusa loves to use....shown in this thread - http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8010&SearchTerms=steps She bought them from a local reptile shop, but not sure how widely available they are.

Hrm didn't think about the suction cups not sticking onto wood. I also guess that most adult snakes wouldn't be able to use it too.

I'm not sure if it would be suitable for snakes or not as I have no idea how much weight it could put up with.

It looks like it uses suction cups, so would be ok in a glass tank or faun but no good in wooden vivs. Also not sure how much weight it would hold be io doubt it would be very much, maybe a snake upto around 250Grams would be ok.

Steve likes climbing and we often find him curled up on top of his hides so hence thought it would be a good idea to give him an extra shelf to play on. Considering he don't like Snakes he is enjoying helping build and sort his Viv..lol

WOuld be good untill he gets a older and heavier, at which point i would consider removing it. You can get little climbing frame things, not sure where you'd get them, i think there for like chipmunks and stuff but anyway i think they could be a good idea, i was considering getting one for our vivs, not sure casper Reggie would use it but the other 2 like to climb.

You could also make a removable mini table, there's a guide I've been looking at in the diy section for it.

Thanks, sorry for hijacking this thread too tylerma

a 23 x 17 or a 17 x 17 would be ok, the shelf wouldn't need a heat mat on.

Why are you planning on putting a shelf in it? I would keep the space so i could get a nice branch or something to put in.
tylerma Posted - 26/03/2010 : 10:57:46
not a problem
I would have had the same sort of question anyways lol

Viv requirements vary from snake to snake. 2 of my adults hatched at around the same time but would require totally different sized vivs. It all depends on how big they get.
One of them would be comfortable in a 36x15x15, the other would need a 48x18x18.

Size of the snake is the key thing, but corns allegedly average out at about 4ft, so a 36x18x18 should be good for the AVERAGE adult corn.
