Hey all havent been on for a while, hope you and all your snakes are well! 
So, at college i have made a bedside / storage unit with a drawer and underneath is a storage component, brought it home today and its my sisters birthday convieniently  what i was wondering is whether european redwood is toxic to snakes?
and another thing i might varnish it aswell, if i left it for a few days because of obviously things like the fumes and that, (bit detailed!) but would ronseal brushing wax be okay to use?
(need to know ASAP as she is home at 4:00 and its a surprise :D)

okay thanks i think i will leave the varnish to be on the safe side, its not necesserilly putting the snake 'in' it as my sisters corn is a hatchling its in a faun which will be based on top and i was just wondering cause it will be more of a storage unit for her substrate, pooper scooper etc with the faun on top and i didnt wanna risk it. |

To my knowledge Hardwoods are okay aslong as it isnt very sappy, softwoods like pine arent so great and require alot of treatment, and is well dried as most saps given off can in some ways (be it fumes, toxic, or just very sticky) will harm a corn, you will want to seal the wood wax is a soft finish and wont work you want to use a hard varnish, something that will dry waterproof and you will want to leave it a good week before you put a snake in it, hope that helps :) |
