Just fed Asuka and for the past (i dont know how many..) feeds ive been trying to make her strike but she never did she would just follow the pinky around until i gave up then she would slowly eat it.. so i thought i would go for a different strategy, as she sometimes seems pretty jumpy around her food while im moving it about i started pretending the pinky wanted her, and i was nudging her with it around her neck and she struck straight away! and as an added bonus when she had a good grip of it she coiled too! im so proud  |

Young snakes I have noticed don't tend to wrap small food up, a pinkie is no danger to them so they have no need to kill it first, as prey gets bigger, or less manageable, ie a pinkie that's jumping about (never gonna happen in wild, but we can make it do it) then the snake is gonna have to subdue it. Lots of snakes realise they are eating defrost so know they have no need to kill it!
I fed some of mine on defrost, then later on fresh kill, there's a massive difference! Fresh kill gets a very quick and descisive reaction, defrost usually just gets eaten. |
