Hi - advice please
We brought Max (6 months old) home Sunday just gone and although he was nervous at first each evening he has been out and about exploring.
Today he was about when we got up 7am and hasn't stopped since - now 3.15pm.
Temp seems ok at both ends and the only difference is we have been in the room with him all day.
Does this mean he is happy and exploring or is he unhappy and stressed ?
Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere on the forum but couldn't find it.

Its good he seems more settled. I think as you've now covered the sides that'll help too. They can and are active at times; its just sometimes its in the day and others at night. I'm sure once he's fed that'll help. |

It may just be his personality, i dont think there is any cause for concern just yet.

Thank you everyone for your advice and concern.
Today the central heating has not been on all the time and Max has been settled every time I have looked also the room is quiet today where it was noisy with the TV on yesterday.
He is in a plastic faunarium measuring 16" x 10" and I have taken your advice and covered the sides as looking at it this morning I could see why the clear sides would be unsettling.
Max measures approx the length of the faun and I have left him alone and will be feeding on Sunday.
He looks a lot happier so I can only presume it was a rise in the air temp and the noise - will know in future.

Also a photo of your setup would be good if you are still worried. If it is an all-glass viv or clear plastic faun for example, it can give the snake an illusion of a big space so it may be worth putting paper around three of the sides to make him feel more enclosed.
Other than that he may just be getting hungry. As you got him Sunday I'll urge you to wait until this Sunday before feeding (if you were searching for this question I'm sure you may came across the one week "home settling" period- no handling or food for a week, just water changing and poop cleaning).
EDIT: As elament suggested- knowing the viv size will help too. We all initially think we'll do the best we can by providing a nice big viv for them to explore, but infact as long as the snake is around the size of one long side and one short side of the viv, they'll be very comfortable. |

Yes showing slightly higher temp than normal as had central heating on all day as been at home.
Back to normal tomorrow so will monitor.

Check your temps. High temps can cause "restless" behaviour in snakes, as their metabolism speeds up in the warm, being cold blooded animals.
Hopefully your heat source will be statted, and monitored by a digital thermometer. |

Just worth asking how big a viv is he in and how big is Max?

I used to worry about Stella's activity levels and worry if she was stressed.
From what i can gather, corns vary alot in activity levels and patterns.
Stella will sometimes go all week hiding away, then spend a week out and about all day. Then other times only come out at night.
If he feeds okay, sheds okay and tongue is flickering etc then generally i would say he is healthy and happy.
However over activity can be signs of stress, but dont let this panic you too much.
What are temps? Whats the set up like? As long as they are ok then i would assume he is happy and your lucky you havent got one that hides away all the time.
