Posted - 18/02/2010 : 08:59:15 Herc was in shed over the weekend and i noticed what looked like dry / damaged skin on his tail and what looked like damaged scales underneath, i thought id wait till he has shed to see if it was just a bit of skin. he has shed ok last night but where i noticed the problem the skin has broken off, i checked his tail and there is no retained shed so thats no worry but there is a small indent it isnt really noticable but its there, he doesnt seem in pain when i touch it.
I just wanna make sure its nothing serious.
I will try to get some pics of it tonight but it is hard to see and when hes moving harder to get a decent shot.

Posted - 19/02/2010 : 13:33:44 my OAP has a deformed tail due to ongoing shedding problems that weren't dealt with by his previous owner but it's just cosmetic. though it's something you need to be aware of and check with each shed as any injury or deformity can cause problems with shed skin not coming away properly |

Posted - 18/02/2010 : 10:49:52 my edison has a slight indentation in his tail about 1/2cm from the tip and its never bothered him, its only small and tbh i dont know how its happened as he's never had retained shed or anything, havent ever really found out what caused it as i only noticed it about 2weeks ago (its so small though that i doubt its ever bothered him!) |

Posted - 18/02/2010 : 10:06:22 What i thought was damaged skin / scales is actually just his normal colour :/ the thing that worries me is the kind of depression / kink in his tail. |

Posted - 18/02/2010 : 09:17:52 Are you sure its skin that's come off and not just a scale? On the very odd occasion a snake can take off some scales too, my salmon hypo boa stripped a section about 2 inches halfway round his body down to just skin! Its nothing to worry about, they will grow back if its that. |
