Even those with many years of experience don't know everything!
Surely you would know that!? |

Posted - 15/02/2010 : 14:03:15 in that case any heatmat has the potential to melt plastic/crack glass.
but the faun/viv/rub retains heat so it would get hot..

Posted - 15/02/2010 : 13:32:23 Yer mike i would have thought that they would only crack the glass if they weren't statted and left to get to their maximum temperature. Which is pretty stupid. |

thats the exo terra heatmats, theyv'e been known to crack the glass.
Surely that's down to not being on a stat tho? Do they really get that hot? |

Posted - 15/02/2010 : 10:07:22 20 degs is ok for an empty snake but not one that's fed, that's hibernation temperature, the food wouldn't be digested. If the heatmat isn't working, a simple test is take off the stat and plug directly into mains, you should feel it get warm quite quickly, if not, go buy another, sooner rather than later. If you have a small table lamp with a normal bulb, you can use that on the outside to provide warmth for a short time. |

Posted - 15/02/2010 : 06:53:04 I would invest in a new mat. I bought a large new mat when I bought my present viv and the mat didn't last 24 hours. i found Snickers the next day feeling like an ice burg. I immediately took her out and heated her on my body, put her in her old viv until I could get her new heating situation set up (which I'm still not happy with, but she has her choice of cook or freeze which she alternates throughout the day).[quote]Originally posted by morph2010

Posted - 14/02/2010 : 22:05:32 I think your right about leaving a gap between mat and viv, i'll dig out the instructions and have a look, just about to order a therm there are two types a "mat stat" or a "temp stat" any ideas which one i would need?
sorry again for my daft questions but i love my little snake and dont wont him to die!! |

Posted - 14/02/2010 : 21:57:27 I would invest in a new mat then.
Just to reassure you, I went and stuck my hand on all 4 mats just a sec ago, none of them feel hot but the digi therms read 27-32c (the hot one is for the royal.) |

Posted - 14/02/2010 : 21:48:10 not to sound to daft but the only time we can get the temp up is to have heating in house constantly on!? viv is near a radiator as soon as heating is of it drops below 20 thats whats making me think the mat is not working how it should? |
SexyBear77 |
Posted - 14/02/2010 : 21:39:11 The mat wont feel hot to you as your body temp is higher than the desired temp of the mat. |

Posted - 14/02/2010 : 21:33:38 will do but i cant feel any heat in mat? |
SexyBear77 |
Posted - 14/02/2010 : 21:28:11 If its not yet attached to a stat I wouldn't put it inside the viv just incase it decides to get hot. |

Posted - 14/02/2010 : 21:25:45 Snake was fed last night, i put the therm on top of substrate the mat was under the glass on bottom of tank i've now put mat it inside viv to try and bring temp up |
